Is this a Mastodon Tooth?

I recently went rock hunting in north Texas, where I stumbled upon this interesting looking fossil in a dried up river bed. This was the only specimen I found of this nature. However, the area around the dried river bed is rich in arrowheads, if that information is useful at all. A friend told me that it looks to be a Mastodon Tooth. Now I'm no expert, but I have my doubts about that. I would really appreciate a second opinion on this.

The fossil is roughly 1.5 inches is length, and 1 inch in width. There seems to be grooves around the sides where small crystals have formed. The top of this "tooth" resembled tree rings, while the bottom has irregular, curved lines.

Welcome to the Forum, Caroline. :)

Unfortunately, it is not a tooth. :(

This looks like a piece of limestone, with some calcite crystals attached.

I am not seeing any cementum, tooth plates or enamel.

Compare to these Mammoth Teeth and Mastodon Teeth.

Keep looking. :)

Thank you! I knew it wasn't a tooth, but it still looks really neat. Appreciate it!
