Hoploscaphites Cheyennensis - Fox Hill Formation, South Dakota

I bought this opalized ammonite last month from a gentleman in Westerly, Rhode Island. Here's where he got it...

I bought this piece at Tucson Fossil Show over 10 years ago to be used as an educational display when "ammolite" mineral became popular (opalized mineral that comes from permineralized ammonite shell). I was an exhibit designer back then and had included it in a temporary paleo installation that toured cross country. Since then it's been in my personal collection only for my house guests to enjoy.

Hard to find ones of this quality, but I have my eye on an ammonite cluster of six with one large opalized Fox Hill ammonite...

Would love to find a white one like that.

They are a hard prep, but those Fox Hills ammonites have "it"
