Shark fin spine fragment?

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Unfortunately, the pictures are quite blurry.

I don't see any details that would lead me to believe it was a shark spine.

Better pictures would probably allow us to narrow down an ID.

Where is Bear Creek?

Do you know the age of the sediments there?

The pics don't have a lot of detail but the pattern reminds me of the back of a piece of tile.

I think so too.

Whoops, anyway I ruled out tile because it was too thin, too light, had many thin layers, and was porous.

In focus pictures would help. Also if You can take some from other angles - back and sides.

I probably don't have to tell you that Ctenacanthus and its relatives were long gone by the time of Woodbine deposition. Hybodont and chimaeroid fin spines had a similar general look but I don't see that in any way in the photos. The criss-crossing lines do appear to indicate a manmade item with some like of organic build-up/structure attached to it.

Another DFW Creek find, it looks very similar to a Ctenacanthus fin spine but could be skin, trace fossil?

they are all just Leaverites:P WildChild,

I've hunted this creek for years, and haven't seen anything to speak of.

But we must keep looking!
