RCW3D
After a couple of weeks out of town, my wife and I were anxious to go back out on the river. We initially planned on going to Westmoreland State Park but the tides would have been bad there, so we decided to drive the extra 40 minutes to go to Purse State Park instead...and I'm glad we did! We searched for about 3 hours until darkness and the incoming tide sent us home...we ended up with 370 shark teeth, numerous ray plates, 2 crocodile teeth (one the nicest I have found there), and a fragment that I originally thought was "sharky" but after looking at it more today, I'm thinking it is a croc tooth. This is what I'm looking for an ID on...it is flatter than other croc teeth I have found which lead me to believe it was a shark tooth last night...now I'm not so sure. Thoughts? The other side and the bottom. Rob

RCW3D
The item you are questioning looks like an Otodus blade. Thanks Ron! That was actually my first thought on the river but since I have yet to find one there, I didn't have a reference to go by. Rob

RCW3D
Wow .... .. That's a lot of shark teeth for only a few hours of searching. I have been to this park before and never found that many... I've found more by walking along and finding a few on the surface, then sitting down and using my hands to brush the gravel piles around to find the ones that are buried. Interestingly enough, the biggest ones I have found have always been on the surface. All of the croc teeth have been surface finds while I have been walking too. I occasionally sift but I limit that to areas adjacent to big downed logs and such...places that block the normal ebb and flow of water and the gravel accumulates. Another key I found was the further away from access areas I got, the more teeth I found...and any beach area that is usually blocked by the water seems to hold a lot (basically, if it is more difficult to get to, less people try). Purse is absolutely full of them...I'm looking forward to the fall and winter months when less folks are out on the beach. Rob
