While roughing, discovered he held a surprise!!

VERY unique death pose!

Great work!

You know, it almost looks like a map of the US... :headscratch:

Minus Florida. Maybe that's because Florida wasn't around yet when this guy died ;)

Very nice!

Looks like maybe the predator ended up as prey.

Quite the stunning display piece, very well done on the prep.

That's one dang cool rock Blake! I also thought at first that after this diplo ate the smaller one that he too got bit in half, till I noticed the backbone coming back onto itself. Really cool.

Yeah, I am loving this one! It may have to stay with me, I can't stop staring at it!

Forget the aspiration part, the big diplo bent over on himself is something I haven't seen before even by itself.

????

An aspiration is when, in this case a fish, tries to consume prey that is too large and it chokes to death.

No mention of that term whatsoever in the paleoethological literature.

Yeah. I was calling them asphyxiation but as I dug in the Green River Formation more often I was corrected.

I think the terms are interchangeable.

Yes, quite a few.

My friend averages 1 a year. He has been digging for around 15 years.

We have never seen one displayed like this though!

Usually they are prone.
