Dinosaur Anatomy 101

Two theropods vertebrae to look at from the Hell Creek and Lance Formation are from the Ornithomimid, Struthiomimus sp. and Anzu wyliei.   Both are very distinctive however with Struthiomimus they can be similar to other Ornithomimids.  Note the unique chevrons.

Thanks.   A lot of us take this type of information for granted but I would have loved to have it at my disposal when I first started collecting.

This post will really help me in understanding dino anatomy. I can use it as a back up when reading about dino fossils. If they use difficult words I can look it up here :D

Thanks Troodon for sharing all of this!

Tom Carr posted this pretty detailed illustration of the osteology of a Tyrannosaurus rex skull.  It works for most other  tyrannosaurids

Surely this should get pinned; @Troodon has demonstrated immense wealth and depth of knowledge, and shared it with us all in a wise, and readable manner. @JohnJ @Fossildude19

Somehow I missed this thread in the past.  Nice work, and thanks, troodon.  Lots of good info in here.

Additionally, I blieve that the cladogram with Scott Hartman illustrations is from Tom Holtz's Dinosaurs 101 class at the U of Maryland.
