Newbie Showing Off Collection

FosselDumbDumb

Recommended Posts

Greetings! I am new here and would like to show off my collection. I really am a total fossil dumb dumb so my collection is not very impressive but I would love some feed back! If anything in my collection does not appear genuine let me know! I'd like to learn from my mistakes. Anyway here it is!

The first picture is a prehistoric horse tooth and the tooth of a woolly rhino. Second is my two amber specimens. The picture of the amber didn't turn out well at all!

Good start for a newbie.  I can help clarify your photo with the Spinosaurus teeth.  The tooth in the far right is a mosasaur tooth.  The other two look like Spinosaurus but additional photos can help with a little sharper image

Can we see pictures of the chewing surfaces of the teeth?

The starfish looks like a Moroccan matrix.  Possibly a Stenaster sp.

The leaf may be from the Green River Formation, Wyoming. Possibly a Willow leaf.

The Black Shale looks like either Annularia sp.  or Sphenophyllum sp. from the Carboniferous era Llewellyn Formation, in St. Clair PA.  (Now closed to collecting.)

Regards,

Thanks for sharing. I'll try to take the teeth out of their boxes to show! What is a Moroccan Matrix?

The matrix (rock surrounding the fossil)  looks like it came from Morocco. ;)

Ooooh thank you. Do you think the starfish is a legitamate fossil? I've heard not to trust anything that came from Morocco.

Here are the dino teeth up close. Let me know what you think!!

Hard to say.

We would need a bright detailed close up of the starfish to make any kind of assessment as to authenticity.

I tried to enhance your picture of the starfish, but it is still a bit too blurry.

Oh, and I meant the mammal teeth chewing surfaces. :)

Much better picture, ... thank you. :)

This doesn't show any obvious signs of carving, so I am going to say it looks real to me.

Definitely Sphenophyllum sp., given the shape of the leaflets making up the whorls.

Searching for green in the dark grey.

The "rhino" tooth is actually an artiodactyl, possibly a cow. Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for letting me know!

The pearly colored ammonites are from Madagascar, Lower Cretaceous.

The leaf above your St. Clair Spehnophyllum looks like on of those from Colorado (but I'm not sure).

I think what you describe as a 'big leaf' in your imgur site, the other white one on black shale, is another fern from St Clair. (Alethopteris I think)

Yes, my fossil book says it is a great chance it is stenaster .

Keep looking! They're everywhere!

As said before the tooth on the right is a Mosasaur tooth. More specifically it looks like a Globidens tooth from the front of the jaw. Teeth in the back of the mouth are rounder. The other two do indeed look like Spinosaurid teeth.

The information that came with the black fossil says that it is a fern from PA. I don't know anything about the leaf.

Maybe you know nothing about the leaf, but this black and white one is really nice.:)
