Ultrasonic Cleaning?

I regularly do obviously providing the fossil and matrix can withstand it. It's a great way to remove crud in the nooks and crannies. My cleaner has 4 power settings, and 4 timer settings up to 480 seconds. It also has a basket which is useful for smaller or slightly more fragile fossils. It's amazing how much grit and mud is removed. I use mine with a small amount of wetting agent - dish washing up liquid works fine. :)

I have a small model of ultrasounds tub with a small basket, but the basket isn't practical for the small fossils. Then I put some water in the tub, and I put fossils in a small plastic jar with some water and a drop of product to wash the dishes. I put this small jar in the ultrasounds tub and I run between 10 and 20 seconds to clean the small shells. Then, I rinse them Under the water in a small fine mesh plastic sieve to remove the small grains of sand. I dry then on some absorbing paper.

You shouldn't use this mode of cleaning if a fossil is cracked because it is going to break because of the vibrations.

I just purchased a cleaner so am interested in any info.

But will only be trying the more common material until I get comfortable..
