Yeah... got the slighest idea.

Without information like- formation or location, it is about the same for us.

Looks like a tooth crown, but with out context that is just a guess.

Forgive me Tony but you know this is one of my pet peeves; it's always a guess if you don't recognize it.

I totally agree, but the more information that is available for a given item, the more educated the "guess" can be.

If the item is from the cambream it can not be a tooth and I would say it is a shell fragment even though I have never seen one that looks like that. If it is from the miocene I would say most likely a whale tooth, possibly a Squalicorax. From the cretaceous a dino tooth.

PS I was just trying to make a point that We need more than just a picture to identify some things.

I understand and agree. I just believe it's best to go for recognition that is as uninfluenced as possible. To that end I instinctively react against emphasis on context.

I included that infornation in the tag. .. Greenville,NC. Green mills run or GMR abv. Miocene.  Sorry about the confusion. I figured everyone read the tags. Ill be more specific from now on, thanks for the criticism. Always is appreciated.

greens mill run, GMR for short. It contains fossils from the Cretaceous Black Creek Group, the Cretaceous PeeDee Formation along with the Miocene Pungo River Formation and the Pliocene Yorktown Formation also possibly Chowan River Formation. It also contains Pleistocene fossils from the ?James City Formation. It is a smorgasbord of fossils. And because it is an urban creek and was used a a trash dump in the past it also contains all sorts of other things, including domestic animal bones and teeth.

I agree with harry on this, a domestic pig premolar is a very distinct possibility.

Using tags is a good thing and is now required to submit a post. But the tags are intended for search phrases that a member can use to look for a particular subject.

It is still a very very good idea to put all pertinent information about an item to be ID'd into the post. Also making sure you have all of the correct geologic information is a must in order to get a best educated guess ID. This information is available online and is easily found doing a google search. Many of the  creek, stream and river sites here in eastern North Carolina  have more than one geologic age represented. This is due to the many many occurrences of the oceans rising over the eons and the river course cutting through the many deposits and reworking different ages into others. Along with the fact that in many places the deposits are sitting on top of each other and the river cuts through each of them. This creates a fossil smorgasbord.
