wetwilly
Hi, I will be in the Jacksonville North Carolina area next week visiting my son at Camp Lejeune. I am trying to turn this visit into a hunting trip as well (depending on the damage created from Hurricane Matthew). Since I'm not familiar with the area, can anybody recommend some places to fossil hunt? I appreciate your help. Thanks. Bill
Raggedy Man
I just assume you'll have to wait and see what the area is like as I doubt anyone here can predict the future and well...I'm the only one here with a TARDIS. ...I'm back.

Shazuren
I don't know if it is still productive or will even be open but some decent things have been found at Onslow Beach I think. Check it out and see what you can find online. There may be much better places though.

We live in Fayetteville, NC and we got slammed by a lot of water from Hurricane Matthew. Our power finally came back on after 3 days but a lot of people around here are not so fortunate. Be careful if you decide to hunt creeks and rivers. Onslow Beach is my wife's favorite place to hunt for sharks teeth.
sixgill pete
Most of the creeks and rivers in Eastern NC are at or well above flood stage right now. Major flooding is occurring just inland from Jacksonville with many of the major highways shut down. Especially in Lenoir County. With that said, most likely your only options will be Onslow beach or Topsail Island. Both are over hunted, but does produce the occasional nice fossil. Curious, are you driving down or flying? How long will you be here? I live about 20 minutes from J-ville and about 30 from LeJeune. sixgill pete
Make sure you check the NC DOT website for road closures. If you take 95 especially because you will have to go around your elbow to get there from 95.
