Greenbrier County, WV finds

DNF

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I found these pieces in some road fill in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

The driver who brought in the fill said it came from a local creek, but I have yet to track down the source.

I've only found a handful of pieces of this material. I think it might be quartzite. It is very friable. There are some crinoids and brachiopods in the matrix.

I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on what these long fossils are. The scale is in inches. Thanks for looking :)

Looks like trilobite pleura to me.  (segment of the thorax.)

That area has Devonian and Mississippian aged strata.

So trilobite is not out of the question.

How exciting :). This must have been a pretty large bug?

I know where I'm headed next weekend :). Hopefully I can track down the source.
