Big Brook Finds - Oct 1, 2016

Hi All,

New to the forum.  Like many others, I can't believe I didn't find this forum before.  Anyway, Oct 1st I took a trip with some family and friends to Big Brook.  It had rained (gully washer style) the night before, which turned over the river nicely in some places.  In other places, there was a new 9 inch plus layer of fine sand/silt.  After screening for 4+ hours, I came away with very few shark teeth (oddity for the location), but did find what I believe to be my first bit of mammal fossil.  I believe it is a fragment of a North American Mastodon tooth.  Basically just one of the points.  I can't imagine what else would have shared root canal, but would love any input.   Enjoy!

Sorry, but I see another of those ubiquitous ironstone concretions, methinks.   :)

Oh, and Welcome to the Forum. :D

Thanks all.  Glad to be here.  Thanks for the input.  I'm open to agree, but it doesn't match the iron concretions I typically find in the river.  Next chance I get, I'll try to take more detailed pictures so you can see the texture shifts.  Might dunk it in some vinegar to clean it up a bit too....not sure though.
