StormDancer
My secret santa arrived today! I would like to thank Mini buckeye for his patience with our Royal Fail postal service!! The fossils were shipped nice and early, arrived in the Uk and customs decided there was to be a customs charge.... for some reason royal mail posted a letter to some random address (the 1st house on our postcode) and when it was not responded to shipped the fossils back to the USA by possibly the slowest service in existence. My secret santa waited patiently for the package to arrive back and reshipped it this week..... amazingly it only took a few days to get here. I will post a picture in the next few days... Thanks again Santa
ynot
My package went to Vierra in Portugal and the customs there held it for ransom. When told to return it they put a 3 month hold on it. I am still waiting for it back so I can repackage it and see if it will go through. ARGH!! Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Seaforth
Well, for what its worth, it could be WORSE I once had a packages shipped to me from good old Virginia but the knuckleheads at the Dutch postal services made the parcel dissapear for a while and when I investigated they finally admitted to having it sent back to VA, USA because "my adress was unreadable" which strikes me as odd as they did manage to send me a letter that if I wanted to receive my parcel I had to pay customs fee for it before shipping it back overseas...... Thanks again Santa Merry Christmas STORMDANCER!!!!! Glad we were successful. My suggestion (learned the hard way) to anyone sending overseas next time as a Secret Santa is to put a value of "0" on the customs form and mark it is a gift. Darktooth
@ynot Did this package come from ynot or Tony? Because I think that anything sent from ynot is justifiably suspicious! I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
Malcolmt
I generally label the customs as "Mineral Specimens for educational purposes" and give it a value in the $10 to $20 range Have never had anything not go through
Wrangellian
That's what I do... state a value, but not a high one. I've been warned that if I label something as a 'gift' and/or value it at $0, the Customs people get suspicious and they might search your package or smack the recipient with duties based on what they think the item is worth (which as we know they often have no clue about, but it will inevitably be higher than the $10 or $20 that you could have valued it at).
