Stan Simpson
This is a recent find. Judging from other pieces identified this looks to me to be a partial lower jawbone with teeth of a horse ancestor. Its hard to see the pattern on the teeth and they are very worn and fairly dirty. I've been a little afraid to clean these pieces as I don't want to damage them. I have just read up on cleaning methods so I will try them out on a lesser piece. This find came from the same dredge location near Houston Texas. I'm hoping that someone can confirm this is a horse fossil. Thanks again to all of you. jcbshark
I'm thinking more bovine, bison or cow: ) 1 Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!
Fruitbat
I agree with jcbshark...artiodactyl lower cheek teeth, not perissodactyl (horse, tapir, etc.). Considering the age of the other fossils you have been coming up with, I'd say they're likely to be Bison rather than Bos. -Joe 1 Illigitimati non carborundum Fruitbat's PDF Library
