The Winner of the October 2016 Invertebrate / Plant Find Of The Month is the Lepidodendron obovatum scale tree fossil from the Westphalian (Carboniferous) of Bruay en Artois, Northern France!  Congratulations to Gery (nala) on his first win in the contest and finding such a beautiful example of this genus!

Person's gotta love the Carboniferous

Seeing the piece,the phrase " Permian redbeds" comes to mind.

IS the matrix reddish?

Thanks doushantuo,yes it's a reddish matrix ,because the internal burn of the coal heap,the rock takes this unusual color :),but it's a Westphalian(carboniferous)level

That is an excellently preserved Lepidodendron with nice branches. Congrats Gery for this find and the well deserved trophy! :)
