I wonder if the leaf is poorly preserved or if it shows insect damage? Would be really neat if insect damage.

I agree with RJB on the leaf, that is fairly typical of most large leaves that I have found in the Parachute Creek member. It depends on how much weathering the slab went through before you split it. Great small branch, most that I have found are heavily carbonized and not very good looking.
