Noah
Hello I found these at Frenchman MT Southern NV. Are these real fossils or fakies? I just recently found a trillobite body imprint there so I know that there are fossils there. If anyone wants a good fossil hunting place in Southern NV that is the place, it is owned by the BLM so you can take most fossils you find. Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. I think they are Pseudofossils. They look like dendrites. fifbrindacier
I agree they are nice dendrites. Welcome from France. abyssunder
This might be interesting : Pyrolusite dendrites " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Plax
looks more like plant material to me. Have seen a lot of dendrites and they are usually more distinctive. Not saying they aren't dendrites; just saying I haven't seen them that look like this.
tmaier
"Let's leave the politically charged comments at the door, please. " For some it's a emotional topic to deal with. My grandfather was killed by a dendrite falling on his head, while splunking in Virginia. To this day, my nan-na breaks down in tears when she sees any type of mineral crystalization. "I haven't seen them that look like this. " The geometry looks like manganese crystal growth to me. They do fade in and out, so I think the line of fracture is not following the plane of the dendrite. The dendrite has to be contiguous to grow properly, so it is likely diving above and below the fracture plane.
ynot
Definitely dendritic manganese. Nice ones! Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Usually they are on one bedding plane.
abyssunder
I'm not familiar with the region, but if the place where the trilobite imprint was found is Frenchman Mountain Trilobite Quarry which is located on the east side of the Las Vegas Valley at the base of Frenchman Mountain,I think the chance for plant material could be very low. There are predominantly trilobites and tracefossils of the Cambrian period. The first land plants occurs in the Late Ordovician and they were spores, later, they began to diversity in the Late Silurian.
