Fossil Sea Shells

Hello Rock Hoppers:

The one thing I've noticed in my town of Fort Worth since I began looking for fossils here is that they're everywhere. I found several low grade samples in my front and backyard. However, I have only found the characteristic oyster-shaped pelecypods and a few gastropods. The elusive ammonite, whose fossilization is more precarious has rarely been found, except by other fortunate souls in outlying towns. Arcadia is rich in shell fossils but has anyone found a cephalopod fossil of any kind in the Fort Worth area? I seem to remember an amateur paleontologist posting a picture of an ammonite from Ft Worth on his excellent paleo site.

Actually the western half of Tarrant county (and counties north and south of) is lower Cretaceous is age and ammonites are common, especially in the Goodland formation. They are all limestone

casts of course.

The only ammonites I've seen with original shell were from the upper Eagle Ford shale in Dallas county.
