Hello all!  It's been awhile.  This bird bone was sticking out about 4" from the sand layer.  They are getting so deep in the pit they are kind of past the fossil layer.  This one must of washed down with the sand.

So...figure Pliocene/Pleistocene..North East Simi Valley.  Bird, but a big one!

I don't know what it is, but it sure comes from a very big bird!

Probably a predatory bird, or something like an emu. Pelican is also a possibility.

I also agree that it doesn't really look fossilized, but at the same time I do not know about fossils from that location so yeah:P

Warm regards,

Where there is silica sand most fossils are that color.  Where there is course sand, usually orange/yellow, the fossils take on that color.  99% of my bird bones are white.

Maybe Auspex will chime in.

Thank Max..

Stay tuned....

Never judge a fossil by it's color!!

It looks fossil to Me.

 Maybe an Albatross?

@Auspex would know but unfortunately He is on a leave of absence.

PS How many bones are there? Were they articulated when found?

Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys."

Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."

That was all the bones in that area.  All in several places.  Check my previous posts for more bird.  I didn't know about Auspex.  Hope all is well.
