Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum, Dean. Your item looks more like a sponge or bryozoan, to me. Where was it found, (geographically - state, county, town) and what size is it? abyssunder
It could be a branching bryozoan imprint in the matrix. Try to make a set of photos in daylight (natural light), if possible. Susan from PA
It does not appear to be a Cerotopsian frill in my opinion.
PFOOLEY
Many years ago I found an example of this and thought I found a huge starfish impression ... ...instead it is Ophiomorpha, an ichnotaxon of a trace fossil... ...basically, the cast of a fecal pellet lined shrimp burrow. Fossildude19
I guess we need to know where it was found. OP's Location is South Bethlehem, NY. If found there, I would expect it to be Lower to Mid Devonian in age. I don't think Ophiomorpha trace fossils went back that far. Although,... I can definitely see the resemblance. Thanks Mike. Your assesment makes sense now. I wish people would put that stuff in the post. I NEVER look at the tags. They don't stand out enough - I end up going right to the post. Fossildude19
I thought the tags were to make searches easier/more quick. Carl
I, too, see Ophiomorpha. But I don't see that if the time period is wrong...
