Possible fossil

I found this while walking on the beach. The city was dredging the inlet. It has been in the water awhile I believe but it still smells. It smells a bit like sulfur or swamp. Wondering if anyone could help with identification. Thanks

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Can we get a picture of the broken end?

Also, a close up of the texture on the sides?

Also,... is this item flattened in aspect, or rounded?

My first thought was some kind of mangrove root section.  :headscratch:

It's not wood.

Definitely bone.  My guess is a dolphin upper mandible.

You have shown 2 sides of the object, can You post pictures of the top and bottom?

Also can You do pictures of the ends straight on instead of at an angle?

Thanks.

Tony

The "Money Shot" would be a closeup on the inside curved portion

I'm sure now this is not a fossil I put it in  peroxide and it's turning white. But it's got to be some part of a jaw bone. Thank you everyone.

Are there any tooth sockets anywhere on the item?

Looks like a sea turtle epiplastron, probably loggerhead.
