Christmas Eve Ichthyosaur Jaw

Welsh Wizard

Recommended Posts

I decided to make a Christmas Eve visit to Penarth, South Wales.

I only found the one piece but it makes for a good early Christmas present.

It's what's left of an early Jurassic ichthyosaur jaw. You can see a really good outline of where the jaw was, along with chunks of jaw bone that are still attached to the rock. The surface of the rock has a number of teeth showing which I'll look to prep out next year.

Happy Christmas.

Congrats, looking forward to the prep.  One of the first books I ever read about "dinosaurs" had a drawing of an ichthyosaur that has stuck in my head for 40 yrs.  Always found them fascinating.  very nice Christmas present indeed

Nice Christmas find.

Six hours?  We have a long wait yet. Hope Santa has something left in his bag after distributing all the fossils to good boys and girls.

Thats interesting. Is that small light colored horizontal tear drop shaped item above the jaw in the right of the photo a tooth?
