Looks fishy, ... to me.   :unsure:  :headscratch:

It was found on a beach in the Wando River near Charleston SC.  The oldest material we have here is late Oligocene.  Thanks!

I agree with Fossildude - looks like a fish vert.

 

The articular surfaces (The "holes" or concave surfaces on the ends are usually a dead giveaway, but they are covered in marix.

 

The bone texture reminds me of fish bone.
