Max-fossils
Since the beginning my dad thought the finds were not fossilized. At first I was pretty are they were fossils, but a few things have made me doubt it now: 1) the matrix around them is really soft, almost like clay or sandstone. 2) they break rather easily 3) there is nacre on some of them (photos) Arguments for it being a fossil: 1) they're stuck in the cliff, sometimes high up. How would they have gotten there so quickly? Anyways I would like your thoughts on this. Thanks so much for reading!!! Vieira
Max, Your finds are fossils. The miocene material i'm used to, have those features... In places I make my hunting trips the matrix is similar and the gastropods and shells normally are very fragile...
ynot
Thanks for the wonderful trip report! Nice pictures and finds, the scenery is not bad either. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys."
