Since the beginning my dad thought the finds were not fossilized. At first I was pretty are they were fossils, but a few things have made me doubt it now:

1) the matrix around them is really soft, almost like clay or sandstone.

2) they break rather easily

3) there is nacre on some of them (photos)

 

Arguments for it being a fossil:

1) they're stuck in the cliff, sometimes high up. How would they have gotten there so quickly?

 

Anyways I would like your thoughts on this.

Max,

 

Your finds are fossils. The miocene material i'm used to, have those features...

 

In places I make my hunting trips the matrix is similar and the gastropods and shells normally are very fragile...
