Chubutensis vs Megalodon

I usually don't go for impulse buys, but I saw these cute little megs from 2 different sellers and figured $20 each wasn't bad.

Each one measures just over 3" (7.8cm) on their longest sides.

I believe the darker one may be a Chubutensis but both were listed as Megalodon (of course!)

I am the exact opposite of a shark tooth expert, I wouldn't know what it was if it bit me. But I am putting together a display for World Oceans day in the spring and figured this was a GREAT chance to expand my knowledge.

Sorry for the dog hair, I need to vacuum.....

Don't judge!

Thanks as always,

Blake, do you have any locality info about the teeth? Honestly, they both could be megs, just different tooth positions. But the one on the left coulb be chubutensis. It does show a small "almost" cusp and is rather wide. But either or both of those traits does not mean chub.

It is this flare here on the side that has me thinking it may be a Chubutensis

Sounds good, I shall do that, just means I need a Chubutensis for my display ;)

This is going to be tougher than I thought!

$20 each ?! I think you got yourself a pretty good deal. They are in decent shape, with minimal damage.

Yes I thought the prices were great!

I put bids on them when they each had like 3 days left and didn't expect to win 1 let alone both!

The kids will have a chance to handle these teeth, which I think is the biggest plus side!
