Florida Fossils Turtle Shell Frag. ?

Found in a creek in Gainesville Florida,it looks to me like a chunk from a turtle shell?....

That's the biggest piece i had ever seen and have...what species could it be?

That is a big piece of turtle.

unfortunately, edd, there are a lot of fossils that aren't large or complete enough to positively identify as to species. although i'm no turtle expert, the thickness of the piece you have could indicate that it possibly came from a giant land tortoise of the geochelone persuasion, rather than a turtle. whatever it was, it was large.

It must the reptile shell.But the shell detail between turtle and croc is very close.
