garyc
I find lots of verts on the brazos river and figure they are usually horse, cow, or deer. This vertebra seems different than any I've found before. I'm terrible at trying to id vertebrae, so I'll leave it up to y'all. Hope it's not too beat up. Thanks for looking! I'm certain this is land mammal. Maybe something from the sacral area?

Foshunter
I referenced my Vertebrate Fossils, aA Neophyte's Guide by Frank A. Kocsis, fantastic publication for Id. The fossil you found is the sacral vert. Equis sp. so horse it is, nice find. Grow Old Kicking And Screaming !!"Don't Tread On Me"
Uncle Siphuncle
Even the experts have trouble IDing isolated verts. I've been told by several respected experts that your best bet is to have access to articulated skeletons for comparative ID....hard to do at home. You could try putting pics in front of Richard Hulbert and letting him take a swing. 1 Grüße, Daniel A. Wöhr aus Südtexas "To the motivated go the spoils."
