Good to see this.

 

 Its a positive to have full provenance of any fossil one is acquiring.

 

Who found it?

Where 'specifically' was it found?

 

Otherwise it is just a nice ornament and perhaps feeding illegal trade.

If Mongolia simply legalised and regulated their fossil trade the black market would disappear overnight.

I think you missed the point.  Like it or not Mongolia, wants Mongolian fossils to stay in Mongolia.

Do you mean that the laws are generally supported by the Mongolian public? Fair enough, but they shouldn't complain about an illegal trade they brought upon themselves.

Fortunately Alberta has a knowledgeable fossil community and its unlikely that illegally obtained fossils from Mongolia or China will find a market here. With the internet, its easier for this plundering of a heritage to be discovered. Also, buyers and traders are not going to be so casual in turning a blind eye to a fossil's murky origin.
