The Winner of the 2016 Vertebrate Find Of The Year is the Dracoraptor hanigani associated dinosaur bones from the Jurassic Lower Lias (Hettangian Stage) of South Wales, U.K.!!!  :yay-smiley-1::ighappy::trex::ighappy::yay-smiley-1:  Congratulations to Nick (Welsh Wizard) on the discovery of additional associated bones from his newly published dinosaur!  Thanks to @Welsh Wizard for sharing part of a world class find!!!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

 

It's such an honour to win the vertebrate fossil of the year. 2016 was another interesting year with further work done on the dinosaur and the fun of the paper being published and the dinosaur named. We had further publicity during this period and the dinosaur has appeared in a number of books and other media.

 

I'm having a scale model made to put on my mantelpiece at home and i'll post a picture when it's done. Recently, a talented artist Jim Brown sent me a reconstruction which I'll post on the other thread.

 

I didn't really get out much last year as it was a busy year doing non-fossil stuff with my family but my new year resolution is to get out more.

There was an awesome set of VFOTM winners from last year--all of them drool-worthy. The Dracoraptor was truly in a class all its own--and with a Golden Drool Bucket to prove it.

 

Congrats to all of the spectacular finds from 2016 and a big tip of the Fossil Fedora to Nick and his "little friend".
