belemniten

Recommended Posts

Not really a fossil hunting trip (its too cold and too much snow here ... ), but i found three teeth from Holzmaden (lower Jurassic) in material which I picked up last year !

I am very happy with them, although they are very small and a bit damaged.

I am not sure if i post the frst one here already ...

Its a 0.4 cm long Ichtyosaurus tooth without a tip. I found it on a rock with a belemnite at the front ....

The second one was on a very  huge stone !

Fortunately i got a stone cutting machine for christmas so this isnt a problem anymore (poor neighbours :D )

It should be also an Ichthyosaurus tooth with a length of 0.8 cm and an interesting color !

Sry for the bad photo ...

And last my favourite "new" tooth. I found it today in a crate with very old material.

First I only saw the tip but the preperation wasnt that difficult ...

Its a nice 1.1 cm long Steneosaurus tooth !

Please correct me if i mislabeled something or if somebody can id the further ...

Thanks for viewing ! :)

Many greetings from Germany ! Have a great time with many fossils :)

The Steneosaurus tooth is fantastic.

I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt

On an unrelated note is there an english translation of "Holzmadden" - I only ask because the 1st part is only 1 letter different from my last name.

“Beautiful is what we see. More beautiful is what we understand. Most beautiful is what we do not comprehend.” N. Steno
