Darktooth
I just checked the weather forecast for next weekend. It looks promising. Right now all of our snow is melted, with no snow in the near future. The week is supposed to warm up to the mid 40's with saturday reaching a high of 49. I am planning on doing a Central New York Devonian Adventure! Sangerfield in the morning and Deep Springs in the afternoon. Are there any brave souls who would like to tag along? Dave I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

RandyB
Google is telling me I'd be looking at a 385 mile round trip. Long day, but possible. What time are you looking to get started? Also what kind of gear would I need to bring. Never collected in NY though I have done a few Devonian locations in PA. I'm guessing it's all shale so prying and splitting? Darktooth
The locations are between 1 and 1 1/2 hours from my house I will leave in time to arrive at dawn. I plan to make an entire day of collecting. A 3-4pound crack hammer, various chisels and pry bar is what I use. The Sangerfield location has harder shale. Large Dipleura dekayi are the prize here. The Deep Springs location has matrix which is easier the break. This has Dipleuras as well but greenops and phacops are more common. Both sites have an abundance of fossils. You will not leave empty handed. If you are serious about going you can pm me and we can discuss details. I would be glad to have you along. If the weather holds out, I don't think you will be disappointed. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
minnbuckeye
Hey darctooth. I'd make the drive if you still had snow. I like the winter challenge. If you offer this up in the summer, I would love to connect since I will be in the Buffalo area for a week. How far from Buffalo are your stomping grounds? Mike. Darktooth
Hey Mike, it would be about 4 hrs from Buffalo. And yes I will be going in the summer. So Let me know when it gets closer to the time your expecting to be in New York. Also there are other members who go to these locations as well. Maybe we can make it a group outing. By the way , I for one am glad the snow is gone! But it won't be for long! I relly have my mind set on a nice large Dipeura. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie. Darktooth
So the forcast has changed from what it originally was. Now saturday is supposed to rain all day with a high of 38. So It looks like I will be canceling this trip for now. Bummer! But on a more positive note my wife felt bad for me and gave me the green light to go sharktooth hunting instead! Yaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!!!!!! So now the big decision, the cretaceous of New Jersey, or the miocene of Maryland? Hhhmmmmmm? I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
