elcoincoin
During the Christmas holidays, i had the opportunity to go out again for a trilobites hunt. Could spend 2 days there splitting shale. The site is Ordovician. The plan is to split good looking shale blocks, the bigger the better. For site pictures, you can go check on my previous report here I manage to find nearly complete or nearly complete bugs. The first morning, complete ones took their time to show up. The first one was this one : Neseuretus tristani, the most common on the site, but still a cool piece. On it's own it would have make my day. I will post more in a few days

Ludwigia
I never cease to be amazed at how long and drawn out the preservation is with this species in this particular sedimentary horizon. elcoincoin
Day 1 - part 2 We made it till picnic time with no other noticable find. After a short while in the afternoon, i managed to find this fellow, pretty distorted but a nice colored head Another Neseuretus tristani Then i started to find about 1 every 10 minutes. I gave the next to my hunting partner since he didnt have any luck so far. amongst them Ectilaenus giganteus with a brachiopod on the side of the head Then this one .... yet to be ided.... Then as it started getting late i saw a weird zig zag segmented shape. I really wondered what it was, didnt even think it was a trilo, so i gave a strong beating to the block. the head of the beast poped out. Second it made the rest of the body appeared. The weird shape was just the side of the body .... It was a really nice other Neseuretus tristani (5 cm X 6 cm) The block is still half a meter long so it will need a bit of sawing. It will need a bit of air pen also. But the position on the edge of the block is so cool. At about the same moment, my buddy made a similar found. With the light getting lower, we decided to call it for the day, gather our stuff and hit the road back home

ynot
I really find the unique story that these pieces tell to be utterly fantastic!! The distorted preservation is just mind boggling! elcoincoin
Day 2. On day 2 i went alone, since my fellow got the flu. With the rain from the previous days the track in side was totaly sliperry and i wasnt too comfortable driving on it with my small car. Anyhow i managed my way to the spot and started splitting rock. Unlike the other day, it started really well. Nearly on my first split, this nice little bug showed up : A not so common specie t this location. The tail is missing but still a shelf specimen for me. Eodalmanitina destombesi destombesi The same block delivered 2 other trilobites : 2 Ectilaenus giganteus First one : rest of the beast is rolled up under its belly. second one : I also picked that partial one , a complete one about this size would be a top piece.... Still an Ectilaenus giganteus One last noticable find of the day was again an Ectilaenus giganteus When the light started decreasing, i packed all my stuff and left the place, exhausted but satisfied, looking forward the next time. You can see the whole pictures on my TFF galery : here or on my flickr account : here I Hope you enjoyed the report
