Collected this down in Broward CO. Fla. Coral fossils are as common as the nearest parking lot down there but this is something different.

The yellow color and speckled appearance is caused by thousands of tiny Calcite Xls that have almost completely replaced the orrigional material. It gets complicated there, as things fossilise and then they are disolved and then refossilised sometimes several times before they are finally found. often, they become almost unrecogniseable.

This was Ided as fossil sponge. Unfortunately it looses a lot of the 3-D in these photographs so you miss the thin delicate "walls" of each opening. The large white object is a shell.

Be true to the reality you create.
