LordTrilobite
This Prognathodon dentary was a very fun project. I also got this one dentary in two separate purchased. I was very lucky to find a second piece of the same dentary after buying the first part. The two pieces I as I bought them. Prepping of the first piece. Prepping of the second piece and joining the pieces together. The final result. 5 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

RJB
Here is another of my favorite prep jobs. I never did 'paint' the repairs. Just didn't seem like the thing to do once I put some thought into it. RB

RJB
I think this is the best thread in a long time. Such amazing and wonderful fossils and being to see the before/after is truly neato. Super neato rock you've work on Dave (POM) Allen. I wish we could do a trade of some kind someday. RB
LordTrilobite
Those are some truly spectacular birds. I have another recent prep project to add that I've just finished. About a week ago I bought a Halisaurus premaxilla. There was still some matrix on it so it was a nice little project. 2 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

fossilized6s
This Rhacolepis from the Santana formation in Brazil was prepped using a cheap engraver from Harbor Freight, grinding wheel, sand paper and a bit of candle wax for polish. Cheap, even crude, but effective. 3 ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG

Doctor Mud
My first ever complete specimen of Tumidocarcinus giganteus from New Zealand. Before pic: Prep process and after shot: A movie of the prep process: Tumido_11_11_2014.wmv I started off using engravers. A Dremel engraver and $15 engravers that would overheat. I had to have 3 of them and cool them off on a bag of frozen peas to change them out. My first one went with a bang when it got too hot. Then I found I had to custom make styli to get into crevices, then this was driving me crazy and I finally got "planning permission" to make the purchase of air powered scribes. One with a 2 inch stylus that really helped to get in behind the claws. 100 Hrs of prep. Too long!! The back end was a little messed up, but boy was I proud of my first complete crab - the finding and the prepping.

Cheap, even crude, but effective. It's wonderfully done. Please post a little about your use of candle wax. How to? e.g. applied melted? etc. Are there any long term consequences to its use for polish?
