Couple Jurassic plants we found today from the shuttle meadow formation. Extra thanks to Tim for the company and expertise. Had a great time splitting rocks and finding stuff.

Dom,

Thanks for hanging out with me today.

That Equisetites   ( maybe E. rogersi ) is one of the nicest examples that I have seen from that site.

The Brachyphylum scotti are quite nice too.

Dom and I met up around 12:30 PM, a few minutes from an Early Jurassic plant site in central Connecticut.

We met at a predesignated parking lot, and he then followed me to the collecting area.

We split shale and shared camaraderie, got to know one another, and made a few decent finds - a boon to anyone familiar with collecting in the Newark Supergroup.

Here are my best finds:

It was a cool day, with a constant wind, but with some intermittent sunshine, which made for comfortable collecting conditions at the west facing outcrop.

Unusual for the end of January in Connecticut.

We hunted til about 4:00 PM, and then packed it in. We talked for a few minutes as we unloaded our gear into the cars.

We said our goodbyes, and headed our separate ways.

Dom is a great guy - and interesting to talk with. He's a good fossil hunting partner, and I look forward to our next trip together.

Glad you had a good time. We'll have to do it again sometime. :)

Regards,

We had a great time and to both our good fortune neither of us turned out to be a serial killer. :) I am a licensed EMT in CT so I kept waiting for one of us to get injured but no action this time. Seriously though, what a thrill to find fossils in Connecticut. It was pretty awesome, the weather was great and we both found stuff.

Congratulations Dom and Tim. Really nice finds. We don't see enough Newark Super Group plants on the Forum. Glad you were willing to spend the day splitting shale and willing to share the results with us. Sounds like you two had a great time. Best wishes and thanks.

You both made some real good finds. Nice horsetail!  Brachyphylum too. You have to do a lot prying and splitting, prying and splitting there. Good to know you're not a serial killer, Dom. I haven't made up my mind yet about Tim.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.
