Whats is it?

My guess it is a small bivalve or brachiopod...and maybe carboniferous. The growth rings on the one side would lead me away from it being a coral.

Nice find!! Where did you find it?

Looks like a sponge, to me. I think, the sediments are Cretaceous, possibly Senonian, rather than Carboniferous. Sponge could be a good candidate. Check this document, maybe it helps.
