I was recently prepping a traumatocrinus and uncovered something I was unable to identify. There were several black, slug-like creatures entwined in the crinoid. I have prepped a lot of these plates and have never seen anything black on any of them. At first glance they appeared to be part of the crinoid, but close examination of their structure shows they do not match any part of the traumatocrinus. They are about 2" long. It's a mystery to me, but hopefully someone out there can solve it.

They remind me of Machaeridian worms.

What time period and location are the crinoids from?

Well, that rules out Machaeridian worms.  :headscratch:

Too late for those, I believe. Interesting.

Great prep, by the way. ;)

With the new data, the Paleozoic machaeridians could be excluded.
I think, they might be fragments of Trachyceras multituberculatum ammonites, or plant material like Ctenozamites, Equisetites, etc., as they are mentioned in WANG XIAOFENG et al. THE LATE TRIASSIC BLACK SHALES OF THE GUANLING AREA, GUIZHOU PROVINCE, SOUTH-WEST CHINA: A UNIQUE MARINE REPTILE AND PELAGIC CRINOID FOSSIL LAGERSTA¨TTE. Palaeontology, Vol. 51, Part 1, 2008, pp. 27–61.
