(Need Help) Interesting Lizard-shaped fossil with possible inscription?

This is a rock/fossil found in grandparents rock bed. I believe it to be a fossilised lizard on top of a rock. When I studied it, I noticed the lizard shape and, on the bottom side, what seemed to be an engraving that looked interesting. I tried to write down the symbols I saw and research them and came up with something similar to the Mayan writing for lizard. Looking for any advice/input on this intriguing piece. Thanks!1486781409618-879070194.thumb.jpg.cd93fb9f5b7e69531cff21290dd29591.jpgtop view of fossil14867814595831513201120.thumb.jpg.f5765f3dd81b4e9b39d10d3cf3c9f0c3.jpgup-close side view of fossil

Welcome to the forum from New York! What I believe you have, is a concretion or nodule with some suggestive markings.

Sorry, but I'm very new to fossil research other than what I've learned by other ameteurs. Could you explain what that is a little more in layman's terms? Lol

HI from France. What i see here is a nodule or concretion and the marks must be cracks that occurred during the formation of the rock, or maybe by erosion. I am not expert, but i can say that the concretions are formed by the aggregation of different elements, stalactites for example. A nodule is a globulous concretion which composition or structure is different from the ones of the rock in which it is situated.

Do that answer your question ?;)

No engraving, either:

I see no too marks, and no evidence of intentional shaping.
