RJB
I hope there are some LED lighting experts here? I installed LED strip lights into my fossil display cabinet. Went to turn them on and only a part is working. Where I cut the strip and added the angle clip and then more light strip is not working after that first clip. The only thing Ive not checked is to make sure its positive to positive and negative to negative, but im sure that's not it. Im now wondering if the strip has to be in place exactly before closing the clip? I thought this was going to be easy? Any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks RB
-Andy-
Did you test the entire strip before installing? If it was working before installation, apply some pressure to the wires where the strip was cut; it could be a loose wire. Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!
Fossil Claw
I would not say I am an expert but having spent many hours soldering wire and connectors stringing along LEDS for three shelving units I can say it seems three things cause a strip not to light up. 1) placement of the strip in the connector properly 2) bad soldering at the connector 3) positive/negative lined up wrong. One more shelving unit to go. I have one continuous string through 12 shelves. I had the same problem as you a couple of times. Check your placement in the connectors. Check your wires and make sure one of your connectors is not upside down with positive where the negative should be.
Fossil Claw
it was much eaiser before Ikea discontinued the prewired LEDs strips i used to use.
andreas
no specialist at all, but sound like changed positiv /negative. Are you sure that you continued with the right end of the next LEDstrip after the angle clip?
RJB
Thanks guys. I think now its just a matter of checking things out and trying to find out what I did wrong? RB

RB Sometimes they work/fail unexpectedly. I had half my lighting fail on me too. Yet it worked fine when I pressed my thumb down on the part where two connecting LED strips meet. I solved the problem by taping that section together. Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Yvie
Hi, You can only link up a certain length to a step down transformer.I had the same problem in my bathroom I designed. You can either get larger capacity, but they can get hot,or do as we did and instal two smaller. On YouTube there is video to calculate your load.Don't exceed it as you could cremate your fossils and more. r. sandgroper
I had a similar problem and discovered that it was simply the connection of the led strip to the clip, sometimes the little spikes in the clip don't pick up the positive and negative points properly. I sorted it out by cutting the clear rubberized stuff with a knife to get it out of the way so I could make a decent connection. I had the same drama with a couple of the connections and sorted them all out using this method.
RJB
Thanks for all the comments friends. I think my biggest problem was using liquid nails to make sure it wouldn't come off the stainless steel. Ive got a real job trying to re-do this. uuuuuugh.
