PetrifiedDoubleGulp
Hi guys, I was wondering if you had any resources or methods you like to use when choosing sites to fossil hunt? Are there maps of public land? Are the only options fossil specific parks, and asking someone with land? Whats your scoop/etiquette? Places within a couple hours from Central Texas? Thanks! Fossildude19
This is pretty well covered ground here, if you search the Forum. There are tons of resources - geologic maps, google earth, google maps USG website. LINK 1 - info is VERY old, but a good place to start research from. LINK 2 - Uncle Siphuncle's magnum opus. LINK 3 - Noobs guide to finding new fossil sites. LINK 4 - More of Uncle Siphuncle wisdom... LINK 5 - And he continues to educate... LINK 6 - Geological Map of Texas... That should give you a bit to chew on and digest. erose
Hey PDGulp, Tuesday night I will be doing the second session of "Fossil Collecting 101" at 6pm before the regular meeting of the Paleontological Society of Austin. The meetings are open to the public. AND this is exactly what the class is about. Go here for more info: www.austinpaleo.org
PetrifiedDoubleGulp
Thank you these are great resources! Erose, I'll try and make it out! I'm mostly wondering about legal issues. It just seems to me that most places are off limits these days!
