tiny verts and skinny teeth

a couple of tiny verts and two thin teeth.  I'm perplexed about the smaller tooth (3)- I assume it is same species as the larger, but it is so thin how could it not break during a bite?

photo 2 is vert 2, photos 3-6 are vert 1

Hi Jdeutsch!

I don't think your thin specimens (#3 and #4) are teeth - could they instead be fish fin spines?  Here's a link to something similar-looking to your specimen in the Members' Gallery:

Are #3 & 4 not bone as opposed to teeth?

Monica is faster than I am!

Great minds think alike, John, but perhaps I'm faster because of the grade 9 typing course I took when I was in high school many years ago ;)

yeah, 3 and 4 are fish spines... notice the shape of the base.  And the vert is a snake vert from my view.

I thought snakes were ball and socket. Not universal ?

#1 is a salamander vertebra.

#2 is a snake vertebra.

#3 is a dorsal or anal fin spine from a bony fish.

#4 looks like a pectoral fin spine from a bony fish.

Yeah, you are right.  My bad.  The little dark one that we see a lot of pictures of is an amphibian.  The bigger lighter one looks amphibian as well.  Does it have a ball on the other end we can't see?
