Did the vert seem more modern than fossilized once it dried out? I had one from POC fool me once.

This may be a long shot, but could it be the base of a broken mosasaur tooth? I have one that seems similar to yours

Gary, yours appears to be a broken fish vertebra with the conical matrix that was preserved between the vertebrae.

@JohnJ I had never considered fish vert for my piece before but I can see where you're coming from. However that really does look like enamel on the surface of my piece.

Wow blast from the past.  Just noticed a couple of my threads had been replied to from earlier this year.

 

It’s definitely fossilized.   Still only thing like it I’ve found at Post Oak.  Afraid to touch the thing for fear of it cracking in half.  Saw the reply on how to preserve tho.
