Hey all,

Any guesses on the ID's of these little amphibians? I know they're almost universally labeled as species of Apateon, but curious if any experts knew if it might be something else like Branchiosaurus, etc.

Maybe the best idee is to lable it like Branchiosaurinae indet.

Maybe somebody knows the differt between an Apateon and a Branchiosaurus, but I don't.

Very cool fossils btw.

Not an easy task - something for real specialists. Try this paper from Werneburg and Schneider:

Amphibian biostratigraphy of the European Permo-Carboniferous.pdf

I fear this paper in German won't help much:

Biostratigraphie des Rotliegend mit Insekten und Amphibien.pdf

Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).

Gigantoraptor, I think I just might do that.

Oilshale, thank you. I've actually read and the Werneburg and Schneider paper previously. Its very informative but my specimens could still easily fall within any of those species listed I feel, despite the paper's thoroughness.

Because a lot of temnospondyls exhibit neoteny, branchiosauridae has indeed become a sort of generic term for miscellaneous permocarboniferous tetrapods

doushantuo- thanks for the pdfs. Yep, could always be little Sclerocephalus youngsters.
