Fossildude19
The piece on the far right looks more like a sandstone/ironstone concretion, than bone. 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." southjerseyfossil
yes I agree it was an odd shape and heavier like a rock the one to the right, is there anyway to identify these bones or just chalk them up as every day animal bones
Fossildude19
Someone with more bone savvy than I should have a look soon. Sometimes, ID's take a day or two. frankh8147
It's tough to identify bone from this location without having it 'in hand', but I think it's probably modern. Doesn't look like any marine reptile and doesn't look like dinosaur bone either. Bone gets that 'old' look really quickly here and I think that's the case with these. southjerseyfossil
Thanks....I kind of had the same educated guess but never know I just wanted to make sure I was'nt throwing anything away. Im taking another drive up there tomorrow anyone have any tips on the brook or is it all alot of luck? thanks
wetwilly
I'd suggest persistence and patience , the more you get out there , the more you learn. The Brooks can produce a lot of nice fossils and the concretions can be very deceiving as well. Sometimes you will find certain areas produce more of a find than other areas , but that's the beauty of the Brooks. Wish I could get out there tomorrow, gonna be a nice day - good luck. LordTrilobite
In the first photo top left is a partial left shoulder blade. Top middle is a right hip piece. Bottom middle is a left hip piece. And I agree with fossildude19, the thing on the right is likely just some concretion, not a bone. The three bones are mammal. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
abyssunder
No doubt, the upper and lower one in the first picture edited by Tim are pelvis fragments. Here are some drawings to compare with: excerpt from Atlas of Animal Bones.
