Bison in Iowa

Does anyone know when Bison died out in Iowa?

I myself have a single vertebrae and the front lower left half of a buffalo jaw with 2 teeth in it.

I think it must be any wear from 500-to a couple thousand years as it is dark brown in color.

Color is not a great data point for age.

Some rivers are very rich in tannins, which can color bone very quickly. ;)

Well I did have to assume, the man who gave it to me is a friend of my dads, he said that he was an avid fossil hunter...Than when he gave me the vertebrae, he said it belonged to a mammoth.. I had to search for myself to find it was a Bisons.

So It may be from the 1880s, who knows.
