I don't know how many of us even know what all that jargon means, doushantuo, never mind who has the ability/tools to test those things...?

I would argue that this is much more likely to be rosin than copal or amber. In the 1700s naval stores was the #1 industry in North Carolina. That is why we have the nickname "Tar Heel State". North Carolina produced tar, pitch, rosin, and turpentine from the long leaf pine tree. Here is a Wikipedia article explaining naval stores - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_stores

Barrels of the stuff were constantly shipped to England for almost 200 years. There must  have been shipwrecks containing the stuff off the coast. I've seen large pieces in fossil hunter's collections that have been found on the beach very similar to the piece in this thread.
