Sir_Andrius
Hello, my name is Andres. I found this in "La Pedrera beach" in Uruguay. At first I had no clue of what it was. I'm prone to think it is a sponge fossil, but would want help in this matter. I found it vaguely buried in the sand close to the shore. The sand of that beach is grainy and loaded with lots of shells of many mollusc species. If it is indeed a sponge fossil, what species it would be? Thanks in advance! ynot
Welcome to TFF! It could be a sponge (not My field of interest), but it looks like a burrow cast to Me. Wait for the sponge people to reply. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Guguita2104
It looks like a burrow, indeed! I've already found some poriferans and this doesn't look like one. Regards,

ynot
Just now, Sir_Andrius said: what kind of bug could have done it? a worm? wasp? doushantuo
It COULD be a sponge, but a microscopical view would tell infinitely more.If diagenesis hasn't obliterated the microstructure, you might see spicules/desmas/scleres(=sponge needles). Sponges have pores as well.

This was probably made by some sort of decapod (perhaps a mud shrimp). Regards,
