I received a little surprise in the mail today from @JohnBrewer and my friend Violet. It contained a card, and a rock with a note that said, "MAYBE?" Time to get scientific. First, coprocats and I had a what young Violet eloquently refers to as a "show and smell" session.

SmellTest-small.thumb.jpg.8485ac8d6c7cb3fee256fa1ccf659200.jpgThe vote was unanimous. Although, I completely trust the olfactory senses of my feline fecal experts, not everyone is always convinced. So I did a thorough peer review and was able to confirm their findings using my trusty microscope.

Fish bone and scale inclusions were visible as well as delicate fecal folds.  Conclusion: Yes, Violet, there is a coprolite!

A big THANK POO to both of you for your thoughtful gift. Where did you find it, Black Ven? John, please tell Violet that her handwriting is lovely!

You’re more than welcome Lori :) Yes, Black Venn. Probably Ichthyosaurus sp.

This was in the box yesterday.  From North Africa.  I am not sure of the period. Any ideas?

I'd guess Mantelliceras, Cretaceous, Morocco.

Got two cool new pieces in the post today. Both from the Kem Kem beds.

First a rather odd bone, I'm not yet completely sure what type of bone this is. But I found the shape interesting so I figured it would make a nice research piece. I'm thinking possibly limb, but it has a weird shape. It appears this bone is also hollow with some seriously thin bone walls.

And I now got my third Spinosaurus aegyptiacus quadrate skull bone. This one is probably a subadult, as it's fairly small. It's from the left side of the skull. It'll be interesting to look into the ontogenetic changes as there are some clear differences between this specimen and the two larger ones I have.

I must have been a good boy this year, or Santa @RJB operates differently than Mr. Claus. Today I received a large box containing some very unprepared Green River fish! 2 Knightia, 1 Diplomystus, and 1 Mioplosus. Thanks Ron, you’re the best.

Well my grandmother sent me some Christmas money. Bless her heart. I immediately knew what I wanted and found a steal of a deal online. Purchased this complete C. megalodon from Calvert Cliffs (Plum Point). I have found pieces of Megs in the past but never a complete Meg and had to have one from this special area in my life. The seller guy goes by the name mioceneman and he lives in North Beach, MD. That's a stone's throw from Bayfront Park (Brownies Beach). He advised not to venture there, as it's overpopulated with visitors, and he has his own secret spots. This particular tooth will go into a display case dedicated to the evolution of C. megalodon.

Just looked the photo does not do the colour of this tooth justice.

I was greeted at my post office with a surprise package from @caldigger recently.  :trilosurprise:  It was in retaliation for a surprise I sent him awhile back.

I am floored by the size of this oyster, appropriately named Crassostrea titan. It's nearly a foot long. Too big to swallow whole, but what a stew it would make!

The small oysters are a couple that I found at Big Brook in New Jersey a few years ago, just for comparison.  Thanks, Doren!!!

A lovely package from the UK was awaiting me at home from @JohnBrewer

Along with a lovely Woodland Trust holiday card sporting a hedgehog, a snifter of scotch whiskey, was a pygidium of a trilobite from Wren's Nest. It is my first Silurian trilobite, and I'll be fiddling with it using the scribe to reveal more of it. The matrix is not exactly like butter, so it will be a challenge (one I gladly accept).

@Haravex those are some awesome teeth :)

@Pagurus that isn’t indeed a huge oyster! Wow!!! :faint: I’m very jealous now, and suddenly have a lot less appreciation for my little Ostrea edulis from the Netherlands... :P
