AbzLondon
Hello everyone! I'm new here so please forgive me for making any mistakes or for not thoroughly reading through other topics/sections before posting here. I went to Portugal with my family almost 3 years ago and came across a few interesting sea shells on top of the cliff leading down to the beach. I'm always intrigued and fascinated by things which have a lot of age or have a story to tell. Can anyone say or estimate how old some of these shells/fossils are? Some look a lot older than others. Edit : So it only seems to allow me to upload up to 3.95MB. One image alone is 3.5MB. Will post again with the other pictures.

Ludwigia
Algarve is pretty big and has deposits ranging from the paleozoic to the cenozoic. Where exactly did you find these? The photos are pretty blurry, but I would guess by the looks of the second one that you probably found that in more recent cenozoic deposits, since most of the coast is made up of them. I can't see much at all clearly in the first photo other than a vague impression. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Guguita2104
Welcome to TFF! Those shells are probably Miocene in age. About the Id,I would say they're big pectenids. Regards,
AbzLondon
Apologies for the late reply. I found these in the Carvoeiro area. I have attached a picture of exactly where I found them and the distance from the water. The pictures I attached are the clearest I can upload. Iv had to Google all the words in the previous replies as I have no idea what they meant. So what I found are in the age of millions of years?? Guguita2104
Hi! Yes...If I'm not wrong (about the age of them), we are talking about Miocene, which is a Cenozoic epoch (that extends from 23 Millions years to 5.3 Millions of years ago, according to https://www.britannica.com/science/Miocene-Epoch) . To understand this science you should have some knowledge about the geological time scale and respective faunal changes:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geologic_time_scale Regards,
